Black Pepper: The Good and Bad Health Effects
Now, I’ve done a lot of videos on salt and different herbs, but I haven’t done one onpepper. Pepper is one of the most common herbs, and there’s something really, really good about it,and there’s something really, really bad about it, and I want to talk about that.Now, the main phytonutrient in black pepper that gives you the big benefit is called piperine,and pepper can actually give you some relief if you have a stomach ache. It can improve certain
neurotransmitters in the brain by a small degree, but it still has some effect on theneurotransmitters. It also has a little bit of an anti-inflammatory effect. It has a small amountof vitamin K, iron, and magnesium. But the biggest benefit of black pepper, specifically thiscompound right here, is that it helps increase the bioavailability of other compounds up to 2,000%.So it’s very good if it’s in combination with certain things and not very good if it’s in
combination with something very toxic because what it does is it inhibits a certain chemicalprocess in your liver that normally gets rid of drugs and herbs and certain compounds.So when this process is inhibited, you will retain and absorb more of drugs and herbs andcertain compounds. But on the positive side, it can actually really improve the absorption ofcurcumin, selenium, B12, B6, and vitamin A. So that’s very cool. But on the flip side,
if you’re taking certain medications, this one for depression, this one for seizures,this one’s for seizures, this one is for TB, this one is for HIV. If you’re taking certainmedications, and there’s other ones as well, these levels can get very toxic in your body.So you don’t want to combine black pepper or this compound at the same time you’re takingthese medications because it’s going to create a toxic effect. So black pepper has a really good
