What To Do For “Normal” Childhood Infections? – Dr.Berg

Had another question from someone that wanted to know, how do I protect my child against thenormal childhood infections? Okay, so let’s discuss that. There’s a couple really, really important vitamins. One is vitamin A, but I’m not talking about synthetic vitamin A. I’mtalking about a natural vitamin A from a food source. Vitamin A supports the mucous membranes, especially of your sinuses and the respiratory tract. So it’s a vitamin that actually will

help you resist pathogens. It supports the thymus gland, which is basically the training camp foryour white blood cells. It decreases the risk for TB, and it supports the entire respiratory system, starting from the sinuses, throat, all the way down to the lung. And then we have vitamin D,which I think is even more important than vitamin A. If you’re deficient in vitamin D,your susceptibility to getting viruses and infections goes way up because vitamin D

is an immune modulator. So it regulates and it controls the immune system. It actually acts likea hormone in the body. And every single immune cell has receptors for vitamin D. So it’s reallygood for allergies, asthma, viruses, colds, the flu. And in fact, one of the reasons I think whya lot of people have the flu in the fall is during the summer months when they have all the sun andall of a sudden they go right into the fall where the sun exposure goes down. So now they’re more

susceptible to getting the viruses, things like that. Well, it just so happens there is one thingthat has a perfect balance of vitamin A and vitamin D together, cod liver oil. Cod liver oilhas really four things. It has great vitamin A, great vitamin D. It has EPA and DHA. Both of thoseor omega-3 fatty acids. When you take fish oil, you’re only getting EPA and DHA. You’re notgetting a lot of vitamin A or vitamin D. So I recommend a high quality cod liver oil for your

kids. Even if the child is an infant, you can give them maybe a fourth of a teaspoon of cod liver oiland that’ll be very, very good every single day. That would be very beneficial. As your child getsolder. You can give them in little pearls. I would highly recommend not to get the cheapest brand. Iwould get something that is a virgin cod liver oil. Okay, very healthy. The other thing thatworks good with fevers for kids would be calcium lactate. It’s a non-dairy form of calcium. It

works good for a lot of problems with children and infection. You can even crush it up in twodifferent spoons and put it into their food. It seems to work really good, especially for feversand other types of infections. Zinc is also very beneficial for viruses and colds. And children,a lot of times, are deficient in zinc, not to mention babies are usually deficient in zinc.So if you’re pregnant and you’re going to deliver, I would definitely be taking trace minerals,

including zinc. Or if you’re lactating, take trace minerals. And that will actuallyimprove the immune system of that child. So there you have it, guys. You havecondiment oil, calcium, and zinc.
