What’s up, guys? Jeff Cavaliere, ATHLEANX. com. Oh, yeah. Right up in your face today.
Different style video. Terrifying, I know. But the fact of the matter is this: it’s what’s coming out of my mouth, and not necessarily having to stare at my face that’s going to have the impact on you today. I really hope it does because this is something that a lot of us deal with, and it’s the number one thing that is holding us back from getting results. It is this – are you ready?
When you do anything in life – and I don’t care whether this is business, whether this is family life, whether this is the gym, and for the purpose of this video we’re talking about the gym. Act with intention. Now, before I get started here – if you’re one of the people that gets offended by language, specially comping out of my mouth – then don’t watch the rest of the video. But if it’s okay that I drop a swear every now and then because I get fired up, then keep watching the video. Intention.
Intention is important for whatever we do because it guides us and it motivates us. So here’s a scenario. We’ve all done it. I’ve done it before. I absolutely have.
I’ve approached a gym and went “Look at all those dumbbells over there. I’m sure there’s something I could do. Oh, I could do some leg work. I’ll do some lunging. I’ll do some curls.
” No purpose. No intent. Just sort of random. Or I might look around “Oh, wait I’ve seen people do that thing with the ball over there in the captain’s chair. That looks kind of cool.
I’ll do a little bit of ab work today. Oh, wait! There’s a band. I didn’t know they had a band here. I’ll do some band work.
” That is not intent. That is randomized shit and you’re not training at that point, you’re exercising. If you’re exercising you’re basically moving your body without a plan. If you move your body without a plan you’re not going to get to whatever goal you have as quickly as you possibly can. If you’re not getting there fast enough – and everybody has a different tolerance for that – if you’re not getting there fast enough to satisfy your desire to get to your goal you usually quit because you’re not satisfied with the results that you’re seeing.
I’m not surprised why because you haven’t made up your mind, or approached whatever it is you decided you wanted to get for yourself, with any intent at all. It’s like the people that – and I’m surrounded by these people it seems all the time – “What do you want to eat? I don’t know. ” “Well, what do you want to eat? ” “I don’t know, whatever you want to eat.
” “Well, how about – I don’t know. Whatever. ” If you know what – if you act with intent it makes decisions much easier. “I want fucking Chinese. ” Great!
We have two great Chinese restaurants around us. We have to pick one of the two. I mean, it limits your choices, it brings everything down and it becomes much more streamlined and focused. Therefore, you can get things done. You can actually pick a Chinese restaurant so you can go and eat dinner.
The same thing happens in the gym. What are you trying to do at the moment? Not just all this random stuff. Not all that. But what are you trying to do?
What is your goal? At the moment, are you trying to primarily lose body fat because that is your biggest struggle at the moment and it’s actually making it hard for you to even do more advanced training? Are you trying to build muscle because you feel that right now you’re uncomfortably skinny? You feel that you need to put on muscle to achieve, even, the confidence that you need to get further on in life, or just to carry your head higher each day? Whatever your goal – maybe somewhere in the middle.
Here at ATHLEANX I actually have programs for all of those goals and we streamline those goals because we know that knowing which way you want to go is the only way we can do that. If I never defined a certain goal of you I could never write a program about it. I could never get you there as quickly as I possibly could. But having a goal, from a training standpoint, to be able to lay out, and map out a path for you is the only way I could do it effectively. When you’re choosing what that goal is for you, it’s the only way you could do it effectively.
But once you do decide; decide with conviction and intent to follow that path. Here’s the biggest part of this – and this is the biggest secret – as we get close to New Year’s and you’re wondering about whether or not you’re going to actually do what you wanted to this year because you weren’t able to last year, here’s the problem. If you don’t approach it with conviction you’ll never gain the confidence in your ability to do something that you said you were going to do. If you think that you’re just going to show up and things are going to randomly fall your way every time; that’s the biggest fucking lie you’re telling yourself and it ain’t going to happen. Things are not going to just randomly go your way every time.
You ain’t that lucky. I promise you you’re not. Maybe once or twice things might actually work out the way you just happened to step in, but the fact of the matter is, if it’s going to happen the way you want it to, then you’d better have a plan for doing that. When you do lay out a plan, and when you show up, and when you do what it says, and you follow through on that, and guess what? You get the results that you were looking for.
You know what happens? You get confident. You get confident and empowered in your own ability to do the things that you want to do. You become empowered in your own life and the control of your own life. That, my friends, is when everything changes.
All of a sudden the things that you weren’t sure if you could do them; you can do them. The next goal that you want to set – yeah, I wanted to lose fat. Now I want to build muscle. You can do it because you have the confidence in knowing that whenever you set your mind to something you can actually do it. But it ain’t ever going to happen unless you look yourself in the mirror, you decide what you want to do, and with conviction, and intent you follow through on that.
That is the most useful advice I could give you to try to get you here. I know we’re heading into the holidays. This is the time where people tend to lay back on their goals. Why don’t you try something different this year? Why don’t you try to establish the goal and actually start working on that with an intent, and the conviction to achieving it right now?
Let’s now wait until January 1st. let’s start working on it right now and you’ll be surprised at how far ahead you are of the game and everybody else that’s trying to get these things done on January 1st. Because they’re going to go in there without a plan, without the confidence that you would already have built because you started today and you’ve already got that under your belt by the time you get to January 1st. all right, guys. That’s enough.
I’m flipping off the camera. I hope I didn’t piss off too many people with my language, but the fact of the matter is this: everything I said was true, and you know it. Everything – if you have to look yourself in the mirror and deal with that, however you’re going to deal with that – it’s at least a step in the right direction and you know that, too. I will never bullshit you here. I will tell you what you need to hear because I want to make sure that you get the right information and not just the things that people think you need to hear.
All right, guys. If you’re looking for a step by step plan, we have programs to define every goal that I talked about already over here. They’re over at ATHLEANX. com. In the meantime, I hope this works to get you guys at least a little bit excited as we approach the next few days here.
More importantly, as you approach the next few months of your trai
