Low Fat Diets & Depression (Mood Disorder) - Dr. Berg

Hey guys, in this video we’re going to talk about the relationship between low-fat diets,low-cholesterol diets, and depression. I’m going to put a couple links down belowwith some very interesting research and research studies that show the connection between these twothings. Here’s why a low-fat diet or a low-cholesterol diet can cause your mood to drop, because cholesterol is needed as a precursor or the building blocks to make hormones.

Estrogen is a big one. If a woman goes through their menstrual period or they just had a babyor menopause, a lot of times they get depressed because of the low estrogen. So low estrogen canaffect your mood big time. Then we have testosterone. If you’re low in testosterone, you’re going to lose your vitality. It can definitely bring your mood way down. And then we get to cortisol. Cortisol is a stress hormone. If you don’t have enough cholesterol to

make enough cortisol, you cannot fight off stress effectively, and it’s going to definitely bringyou down into states of anxiety and even depression. You need cholesterol to keep yourserotonin levels high. So serotonin is also connected to overall well-being and mood.cholesterol is needed to help make vitamin D. In the winter months, when you don’t get a lot of sun, you’re not going to have enough vitamin D. And a lot of people get the blues from that.

That’s depression. If you don’t have enough fat in the diet, you’re not going to get essentialfatty acids that are essential in making the chemistry of our brains and nervous system. So that’s another key point. And also, you’re not going to have the available fat-soluble vitamins, vitamin A, D, E, and K, also necessary for the chemistry to make certain neurotransmitters andalso hormones. So where do we get cholesterol? Animal foods, egg yolk, dairy, but there is no

cholesterol in plant-based diets. So if you’re a vegetarian and you’re depressed, you might wantto get your cholesterol checked because if it’s too low, below 160, that could be the reason.Another reason could be that you’re on statins. That’s a drug that blocks the production ofcholesterol. And that’s one of the side effects of statins is depression. That could be it rightthere. Or you’re lacking bile from the gallbladder. Let’s say you had your gallbladder removed or your

gallbladder is sluggish. You need the gallbladder and the bile actually to make cholesterol availableinto these hormones. So if you do have this problem, it’s very simple. Just take somepurified bile salts or some gallbladder support, and that should help you. All right. Thanks forwatching. So I hope you’re coming to the Keto Health Summit coming up in October. So I wantto quickly comment on what we’re going to do that’s different from other conventions. The

problem with these other conventions is they give you information overload. It’s so much data thatyou’re basically swimming in a sea of information. We’re going to do things very differently. We’reonly going to cover the most important things that make a huge difference. Now, there are three verypowerful strategies that we’re going to be talking about at the summit that you will not find in anyof my YouTube videos. Number one is on memory. I’m going to be showing you something very cool

to dramatically increase your memory and concentration that’s going to blow you away. And number two, I’m going to show you how to increase your stress tolerance so you arecompletely calm all the time. All right. And number three, and most importantly,if you have a slow metabolism, if you’ve dieted for a long time and everything is kind of justreally slow, I’m going to show you how to get complete control over your metabolism. So you

can literally turn up the dial as high as you want and control as much weight as you want to lose. And these three things are just a tiny bit of what you’re going to learn in the summit. So click the link below, get signed up, and I will see you in October.
